Becoming a Virtual Assistant was one of the best decisions I ever made. I used to work for bosses, and especially in the last years before starting my own business, I felt off. I was sick a lot, stressed, and had low energy.
At the beginning of 2017, while I was sick at home once again, I had to make a decision. I had to think about what would make me happy. And right then, a Facebook ad for becoming a Virtual Assistant appeared on my feed. Looking back now, it feels like the Universe was telling me something.
After completing the challenge, I felt in my bones that this was what I was meant to be doing.
However, I had several objections in my head:
As an introvert, I won't be able to get clients.
I have no clue how to set up a business.
Why would anyone hire me?
Where can I find clients?
What if it doesn't work out?
There are already numerous VAs out there.
But since I knew deep down that this was the right path for me, I pushed through those negative thoughts.
I hired a coach and joined her program to learn how to set up my business. I worked hard to launch my business at the end of 2017.
It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows in the beginning. I had no clients and was really struggling to find a way to get them. I took courses that didn't work for me, but after about six months, I found a post from another VA who was asking for help during her summer holiday. That was the beginning of clients finding me.
Now, I have a successful virtual assistant (VA) business. I work with amazing entrepreneurs, doing the things I love. Being a VA gives me so much freedom, as I can work when I want to work.

Gain the Necessary Skills

Similarly, if you are an expert in bookkeeping, you can offer those services to clients as a VA.
On the other hand, if you don't have any specific skills from your 9-5 job, there are still many skills that you can develop that will be useful as a VA. For example, if you enjoy writing in your free time, you can offer copywriting services to clients. If you love to post on social media about your life, you can offer social media management services to clients.
Ultimately, the key is to identify the skills and services that you enjoy doing and that you are passionate about. This will help you to build a successful VA business that you love and that provides value to your clients.
Build Your Network
I discovered the importance of having support when building my own VA business. I hired someone to help me set up my business and joined her Facebook group, which is full of other VAs. In this group, I found the post I mentioned earlier.
I also surrounded myself with a community of other amazing business owners. I can ask them for advice, we cheer each other on, and I can vent when necessary.
