Why setting boundaries with your clients is so important.

Two weeks ago I was so frustrated.

I didn’t set a boundary with one of my newer VA clients. I forgot that not everybody is like me or my other VA clients.

So, I had to finish two projects last minute for her.

Some may say that I should’ve said that I wouldn’t do last-minute projects and she would be the first this week.

And in this case, I wish I could be that person. But I’m just not.

But I emailed her yesterday with how I’m feeling and she thanked me for letting her know.

Now we’re going to work a bit differently.

So what are the lessons you can get out of this?

⋒ We are all different and that’s amazing.

⋒ Setting boundaries with clients is important. Because you don’t want to keep getting frustrated when you work with a client. You don’t want to dread working with that client. It sucks all the joy out of being a VA. And remember, your client doesn’t know you are frustrated because your client probably works like that all the time.

⋒ It’s never too late to set boundaries. I didn’t explicitly mention how I want to work and that I get stressed and frustrated when everything has to be done last minute. That’s on me but I also know that I can redirect by sending an email with how something made me feel and with a solution that works for both me and my client.

My advice is to think about how you want to work. What is best suited for you? Do you need to work with last-minute deadlines because that’s when you thrive? Do you need to know everything in advance so you can plan accordingly?
